It’s hard to believe that after all of these years, Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire have never recorded a duet. Just imagining those two iconic voices harmonizing is enough to make our hearts soar! According to Parton, we’ll finally be able to hear them take on a tune together soon — and it’s one of McEntire’s biggest hits.
Parton spilled news on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. While reading questions from viewers, Cohen asked why she and McEntire never did a song together. Parton quickly replied with excitement, “Reba and I just did a song together!”
She explained that it will appear on an upcoming album McEntire is working on. “We re-did the song ‘Does He Love You’ that she did years and years ago,” Parton revealed. “We did a new version of it, it turned out really good. I’ve always wanted to sing with her and don’t know why we never did it until now, but we really sounded good together. I think the fans are going to like it.”
McEntire originally released the song in 1993 on her Greatest Hits Volume II compilation as a duet with Linda Davis. The lyrics detail a love triangle (which McEntire thankfully doesn’t have to worry about with her new real-life beau) and was depicted in an over-the-top music video starring the singers embracing soap opera-level drama. Refresh your memory below — and wait for the hilarious twist at the end!
We all know Parton is no stranger to singing about a romance gone wrong (hello “Jolene,” among many others), so we can’t wait to hear her take on this tune. And although it’s probably unlikely, we can’t help but wish for Parton and McEntire to remake the video, too. Just imagine them in those glamorous outfits acting out the dramatic scenes!
No word yet on when McEntire is set to release her new album, but she’s been teasing it for months, so hopefully she’ll share a date soon. We’ll be crossing our fingers for her to choose the duet with Dolly as her debut single!
